Retro survival horror game for PC
Loggerhead Demo is a free action title for PC made by an indie developer who goes by the name affordable-cat. It is a third-person survival horror game that draws inspiration from classic titles from the PlayStation(PSX) era. It follows a couple and their terrifying experience during a camping trip.
Taking cues from the original Resident Evil and Silent Hill games, Loggerhead Demo features characteristic fixed camera angles and "tanky controls". It serves as a prologue chapter that takes place one year before the events that will take place in the full version of the game.
Inspired by the classics
The events of Loggerhead Demo take place in Australia circa 1985 and revolve around Gary and Sharon, a couple who were invited to the popular but condemned tourist destination known as Boggarogga Creek. What seemed like a harmless little getaway to have some fun while saving a few bucks quickly spiraled into a dark and terrifying night as they fight for their lives against the undead.
The version of Boggarogga Creek in the demo features multiple locations, all of which you can travel to by car. On foot, you will have to deal with the fixed camera angles and those tanky controls that players loved to hate back then as you explore. Look for weapons to defend yourself and scavenge for resources and clues to move the story forward.
The game also has various puzzles you need to solve so you can unlock new areas and uncover bits and pieces about the truth of what happened to the once lively creek. It should go without saying, but this is just a small preview of what the full game will be. Speaking of, there's also no official release date yet, so you'll have to wait a while longer.
A worthy homage
If you played the first couple of Resident Evil and Silent Hill games back in the day, Loggerhead Demo is a fun little throwback and homage to the classics. It captures the essence of what made those titles special and memorable, for better or worse. Hopefully, the full games comes out sooner rather than later. Put this on your radar.
